Founder of GirlTalk Network and GirlTalk on the Road, Sarah Pendrick is a leader in the female empowerment movement, an expert @Entrepreneur, and all about women supporting women.
Sarah started her company GirlTalk as a combined result of her deep passion for women who support other women and living a lifestyle full of self-love and appreciation. GirlTalk is an online and offline platform that empowers women around the world, teaching them to live authentically and giving them a safe and supportive space to use their voice.
Ready to reach women on a more personal level, Sarah started GirlTalk on the Road, heading out across the United States with a custom program that helps young women learn to deal with their issues and traumas. During each GirlTalk on the Road event, Sarah connects the young women with relatable female mentors in their community, and gives them helpful tools to overcome the issues they’re dealing with, such as self-esteem, body image and bullying.
Sarah is also an international speaker, a humanitarian and philanthropist, a serial entrepreneur and a TV host. Most recently, she was recognized by the United Nations, receiving the Women Economic Forum’s prestigious Iconic Woman Creating a Better World for All. Sarah is a babe for the way she promotes female empowerment and the celebration of women from all walks of life.
What does babes supporting babes mean to you?
Babes Supporting Babes means women genuinely supporting and celebrating other women. It’s a movement for women everywhere to stand for each other, rise together and create true sisterhood. It’s a way of life for me and a stand I truly and deeply believe in.
Champagne, wine or sparkling water?
Champagne!
What are 3 apps that make your life easier?
Wave (I live in LA!), Doordash and Uber for sure!
What is your must-have beauty product?
My three skin care products that I use daily and swear by. First is a homemade hydraulic acid from my amazing facialist, then Retina, and lastly the Vitamin C Serum by SkinCeuticals. Another beauty must-have for me is committing to a facial every four weeks.
What motivates you on a Monday morning?
My mission and vision for the world, and the fact that I get to support and empower women. I take on full responsibility and it is what always keeps me going. If I am having an especially rainy Monday morning, I take a few extra minutes to really connect to the opportunities I have and what I am grateful for. Gratitude truly is life. Until you’re grateful for what you have in the present, you will never have more.
What’s the best piece of business advice you’ve received?
My biggest lesson in business and what I share with others is don’t be scared to fail. When you do — and it will happen — fail fast, and then ask yourself: what can I learn from this? How did this happen FOR me?
What’s one word you live by?
EMPOWERMENT.
What do you do when you feel like giving up?
I remember who I am and what my vision is. My vision is to empower women to believe and truly know that they can live in the highest vision they have for themselves. I remember that I have a gift that gets to be shared because I am here to give others the opportunity to realize and live in their gifts as well.
That opportunity and inspiration I have to let others know that what you believe you become and that you can have everything is what keeps me going. This year I have spent much of my time being dedicated to being my best self and connecting to my visions and what I want to create for the world. When your vision (some people may resonate more with the terms “calling,” “dream,” “purpose,” or “belief”) is bigger than your feelings, you are living that vision and you are a leader who really can make a change. When I wake up and “feel” tired or don’t want to do that thing I said I would, I do it anyway. My vision is bigger than my “feelings.”
Who should EVERYONE be following right now?
You know what… I think everyone should just follow the accounts that fill you up. By that, I mean the ones that leave you feeling better when you exit their page or that leave you with some value.
Did you always want to be an entrepreneur?
YES! I always had it inside me. I knew I wanted to create and I knew I could make a difference in the world. Entrepreneurship came naturally to me – I wrote my first business plan when I was a teenager, with no guidance and no knowledge of how to even write a business plan. What inspired me towards what I later learned to be “entrepreneurship” was my passion to build and create. My mind has always worked this way. I was so inspired by fashion, performers, and business owners. My dad was a business owner and whenever I would hear about or be around anything regarding his business, I would think on how to either create more of that or expand upon it. If you look at my 6th grade yearbook I wrote that I would someday be a restaurant-nightclub designer and owner, and also a mayor. So random! I have no idea where that came from!
What have you read lately that you’ve enjoyed?
The Universe Has Your Back and The Four Agreements are two books I make sure to read each year.
What was your first job?
Well… Just like every young entrepreneur, you know I was on the corner selling lemonade at some point in my early years. And I loved going to my father’s office and pretending to own his business. Nannying was my first real paying job. I liked making my own hours and that each day of work was different from the previous. I also loved to take care of and support others from an early age. My next job after that was a hostess (and I never picked up my paycheck – still haven’t figured out the psychology behind that!). Being a nanny inspired me to have side hustles and started a love for creating my own schedule. During the children’s nap times, I would visualize future companies, read, and just dream big. A lot of the families I nannied for were very wealthy and seeing their lifestyle – as well as the fact that they were all very large business owners – also inspired my drive and dream to create even more so. When they would leave to go to charity events and talk about their donations, I knew that I wanted to do that someday and make an impact on people’s lives.
Tell us about a Babe who has supported you?
I have had so many women support me. I am so lucky to now be surrounded by amazing, like-minded women who truly see me and believe in me. That being said, that was not always the case for me – I have wounds from female bullying. However, I learned to have compassion for that type of behaviour. Somewhere along the line society created so much competition and comparison between us. I learned that when someone hurts you, it really has everything to do with their pain and nothing to do with you. This mindset allowed me to heal and be unapologetic about the type of women I wanted to surround myself with. My female relationships are some of the highest priorities on my list. When we support each other we LITERALLY heal the world.
What is the most fulfilling part of your career?
The most fulfilling part of my career is taking a stand for transformation and supporting women everywhere in knowing and believing that they get to live the life they want and realize their highest vision of themselves. It is all possible!
Do you have a nighttime routine?
First, I wash my face (of course!) then I do my skincare routine. Following that, I think of three things that happened that day that I’m grateful for. I fall asleep to either meditation deep sleep music, an audiobook or an inspirational woman-led podcast.
What are three things in your bag that you couldn’t live without?
My mind definitely goes to my phone right away, but I’m going to make a shift because being able to unplug is such a gift. I’m going to go with lipgloss, my credit card and a love note to myself.
What city feels most like home to you?
I have such a passion to travel and have new experiences, and I have a huge love affair with Paris. It is the most magical place to me that is so full of art, fashion, creativity and beauty. As soon as I step off the plane and arrive in that city, my heart feels like I am home. To this day, the Eiffel tower lights are midnight are one of the most magical things I have seen. I could be having the worst day but if I step out and start exploring the streets of Paris I will do a complete 180 and feel so alive. My husband laughs because it’s like a weird vortex where no matter what is going on with me personally, if I go outside and explore that city I could get lost in happiness and wonder forever.
What quality are you working on yourself right now?
I’m always working on my mindset and my continual growth and personal development.
What is the hardest part of having your own business?
Having my own business is both challenging and the most rewarding thing ever. Each up-level and each journey has different challenges. When it feels like it’s all on you it can be so hard. My advice is to surround yourself with other women who understand. That’s a gift you can give yourself — knowing you’re not alone.
Keep up with Sarah @girltalknetwork.
